Common questions.
Will callers know they’re talking to an AI?
Yes. Every call opens with a disclosure that the caller is speaking with a virtual assistant, and the assistant will confirm it’s an AI whenever someone asks. It never pretends to be a person. If a caller would rather talk to a human, it hands off or takes a message for a callback.
Are calls recorded?
Calls may be recorded and transcribed so we can send you accurate summaries and keep improving the script. Every call starts by telling the caller the call may be recorded. Some states require every party to consent to recording, so we configure recording settings for your location and callers, including a no-recording option where it’s required, and keep recordings only for a limited time. We’ll walk through this with you during setup. (This isn’t legal advice; check with your own attorney if you have questions about your state.)
Does it make outbound calls or send marketing texts?
BackupRing is built to answer inbound calls. Texts to callers are transactional, like a confirmation of the appointment they just asked for. Outbound callbacks on the Premium plan go only to people who have given documented consent to be contacted.
What happens with a real emergency?
You set the rules. Typically, urgent calls (no heat or AC in extreme weather, active leaks, flooding) get warm-transferred to your on-call tech, and you get a text right away. For a gas smell, the assistant tells the caller to leave the building and call the gas utility or 911 first.
Do I need a new phone number?
No. You keep your existing number and forward calls to BackupRing: all the time, after hours only, or only when you don’t answer. We’ll send you simple forwarding steps for your carrier.
Will it sound like a robot?
It uses a natural-sounding voice and is scripted for the trades. The best way to judge is to hear it: ask for a demo during your free audit and we’ll set one up for you.

Is there a contract?
Starter and Pro are month-to-month. Premium has a 3-month minimum, then goes month-to-month.
Do you work with businesses other than HVAC and plumbing?
